Afton wanted to make an animal sculpture so we decided to make salt dough giraffes. This one is mine, he ended up coming out pretty cute! I also took the opportunity to work on my product photography skills, which need more work!
So normally I let air dry but Afton was impatient, then when I do bake dry, I usually bake at 200 for hours until dry but Afton was impatient so I baked at 350 for 1.5 hours and figured it’s a giraffe so its ok if it is a little golden/brown. I ended up just painting a random pattern of squarish pinks and orange spots, definitely pink cheeks and inner ears.
The eyes are just plastic beads and they didn’t melt in the oven so that was cool.
He surprisingly, despite his flaws came out pretty darn cute.
I hope you like him as much as I do. I didn’t get a photo of Afton’s which I REGRET because Mila promptly broke it. oh well.
